Tahitian pearls come from the black-lipped oyster Pinctada margaritifera, farmed in the lagoons of French Polynesia. They are the only cultured pearls that are naturally dark: no dye, just deep body colours running from charcoal and graphite to green, aubergine and the coveted peacock, where several shades shimmer at once.
Where white pearls whisper tradition, Tahitians speak with modern drama. Sizes typically run 8 to 14 mm, so even a single-pearl pendant has real presence, and the play of overtones means the colour shifts as you move. Polynesian farming is tightly regulated and each oyster yields a single pearl, which is why fine Tahitians sit a step above classic strands in rarity.
8–9 mm suits everyday sophistication; 10–11 mm is the sweet spot for impact; a matched multicolour strand celebrates the full natural palette. Tahitians pair beautifully with white gold and modern, minimalist wardrobes. Every Tahitian piece at Prestige Pearl is genuine and naturally coloured — real pearls at honest prices, shipped from Montréal.
They read as black, but up close they are naturally deep charcoal, green, blue-grey or aubergine — often several shades at once. On a fine Tahitian pearl the colour comes from the oyster itself, never from dye.
One pearl per oyster, years of lagoon farming in French Polynesia, larger sizes and strict export standards all add up. You are paying for genuine rarity.
Practically everything — they are the most modern pearl. White gold settings sharpen their cool tones, and they look as right with a blazer as with an evening dress, on any skin tone.
8–9 mm for everyday presence, 10–11 mm for deliberate impact, and 12 mm and up for a true showpiece.
